Variation of the minimum rate of wages in Thailand


Reference is made to the announcement No. 12 of the council of wages pertaining to variation of the minimum rate of wages published on 28 December 2024.  After the council of wages had studied living costs and other relevant facts, and conducted research of the rate of wages payment of all Thai employees, the council of wages considered and finally passed a resolution to impose the new rate of the minimum wages on
8 December 2024.  The new rate of the minimum wages has been applicable since 1 January 2024.

“Day” means a normal working day of the employee which the working hours shall not exceed the maximum working hours as follows:

·        7 hours for works which may be harmful to health and safety of the employee as prescribed in the ministerial regulations; and

·        8 hours for others works.

All entrepreneurs in Thailand, as the employers, are demanded to pay the wages to their employees in compliance with such new minimum rate of the wages as imposed in the announcement which the wages payment at the lower rate is prohibited.  Failure of which may cause a dispute between the employer and the employee, and the employee will be entitled to claim for compensation through either Department of Labor Protection and Welfare or Thai Labor Court.
